IN THE LAND OF THE FREE

I've neglected to post any photographic documentation of my trip with Emilia and Mikee to Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee. We journeyed from Canada to Michigan, then through Indiana and Kentucky down to Tennessee. We found fantastic little spots, a fabulous Thai restaurant in Louisville (the hometown of my favourite man Jim James), as well as a sweet coffee shop which sold cute ceramics in Nashville. I only wish we had more time to spend in all these places. Unfortunately doing all the driving tuckered me out and I didn't end up using my cameras much. Regardless, here's a handful of the better shots.

SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE A SIGN

My mother reminded me this morning that the thing about artists & designers is that they are constantly making. From the frequency of my blog posts, it looks like I'm not upholding that aspect of my profession. I thought I had better do some catch up, and post the mini projects, half ideas and little bits that have accumulated since I've been home. The first of these being the redesign of our salad & food signs at work (a vegetarian health food type resto). Currently, they are hand scrawled by whomever with whatever colourful markers we have laying about. No consistency, and moderately 'hokey.' So far the designs haven't made it beyond the sketching stage. I've tested a few colours, to see if they mesh with a pencil-drawn design, but I still need to go over the sketching in illustrator to see if that approach is more suitable. Have a look...

BS IDENTITY

Today my aim was to capture my processes, food + design on paper. The purpose for this was to demonstrate the results of the two main intentions of the Bake Space. The blank piece of paper became my placemat/canvas. As I worked away both in the kitchen and at my desk, I ensured my trusty paper was beneath my work surfaces. After 2 cups of tea, a bottle of Pellegrino, a bowl of strawberries, coffee, a sandwich and sushi, these were the results. As it turns out, condensation is quite adept at spreading crumb colours.

C–RHAPSODY

Feeling as if I had to open the creative valves to let some of the pent up ideas out, out came a heap of relatively lame designs, albeit joyfully received, as I hadn't engaged much with many projects since leaving London. I thought I would post the results of that ventilation, a photographic story of my last days in London. I couldn't settle on a name. It started out as "Retrospect," to accompany the reflective state I was in at the time. Though "Last Days" seemed more appropriate, while following the stream of what was emerging. It started out as some diamond shapes and patterns in contemplating the word Retrospect. Then came the photographic pages with some words describing how I felt about each image and the end of my life in the UK.

LETTERHEADS, EGADS!

I'll be honest. I've not attempted a letterhead since the early days at Humber College. That letterhead happened to be 'farm' themed. Let's hope this effort is more fruitful. To further the branding project for the Bake Space, I thought it would be nice to have some custom stationary, and eventually a business card. I also turned the logo into a sticker, which would be adhered to the cake boxes to keep them closed. My mind is beginning to grow distracted by the idea of other creative projects...

So many print outs..

I think I'm getting somewhere...

Printed sticker, printer colours are inaccurate, hmm...

The bakery boxes await adornment
