COACHELLA - PART II

The Coachella memories are beginning to fade now. It's become a pleasant dream. I'm happy to be sorting through the visuals, preparing for a project on the experience. We both kept a sketchbook/diary of the adventure, though it was difficult to maintain the momentum and got a bit behind. Today I'm planning on catching myself up. I photographed on 4 different cameras - Olympus DSLR and Pentax 6x7 for everything outside of the venue, as per the regulation no 'professional cameras permitted inside the venue' and the Ricoh compact digital and Olympus Pen half frame inside. So essentially 1 x film + 1 x digital for each scenario. Considering our documentary, I recorded some snippets of the trip on the Ricoh.

I have to say I was not impressed with the Ricoh photographs. There is a chance that I just don't know how to use this camera properly yet - because some of the images were great, but very few.

NATURE POST CARDS

As far as the postcards go, this is what I've got that i'm quasi-happy with. The first two, I was sort of haphazardly stabbing at something. I wanted to invoke the Canadian flag/colours in there somehow.


This is when I started to get somewhere. I thought it would be nice to include a bit of Canadian nature in the post card. So I used some of the wild flowers I collected and pressed.


I liked the opaque box on this, when I wanted to add a hint of the towns 'rustic' charm.

The London version of the post card, using a thinner version of Gill Sans and Baskerville in place of Walbaum for the small type.

So that's where I'm at now. I still need to scan and compile the Palm Springs images, that is to happen on Tuesday! Can't wait to see the photographs from California!

SLOW ON THE UPTAKE

So I've had the 3 rhythms booklets printed in black and white and folded them, which took quite some time. I'm wondering if it's a problem that when folded, the text appears over the crease. Even though I had guides where the creases were meant to be, they weren't in the same place when I folded the booklets.

One obstacles I've encountered is - they cannot print on the paper I want, because it needs to be from a roll, and that paper is thin and smooth. The paper I want is thick and textured.





I've also been working on the nature composites, which I decided should be postcards. They are essentially showing/advertising the natural surroundings of each of three cities/towns and for nature lovers, particularly those interested in photography (perhaps someone who digs National Geographic) this is something they would be interested in receiving or sending. I will post some versions of the post cards soon!

Sorry if that explanation isn't computing, I haven't been sleeping well because my brain is working overtime and refuses to let me rest until these projects are complete!

After going to see the Wim Crouwel exhibition at the Design Museum, it was time for coffee and cake at the Vegan (secret) Society lounge with Jorge. Also trying to warm up to the Ricoh by playing with it's macro function.

On our way to pick up film at Silverprint, we discovered this giant broken buddha.

Emilia, bless her, gave me these as a present from her visit home. They're amazing!


I stumbled upon this new, adorable vegan tea room near Old St. called October Cafe. VISIT IT! It was brilliant. The owner was lovely and I relished THE BEST cheesecake I've ever tasted. BTW it's the only place you can have vegan afternoon tea in London.
